Substance Use Disorder Resources

This is a list of National SUD/Addiction/Recovery Resources. This list is an ongoing database, and I do plan to offer state to state resources in the future. If you would like to add resources or you are a resource and want to be listed there is a contact form below to submit your request.

drugfree.org TRANSFORMING ADDICTION Mission Statement Below “We empower families and communities to help prevent and treat substance use disorder and addiction and support recovery for their children and loved ones. Through this lens, we organize our considerable research, technical assistance, policy, media and other strategic assets in order to bring an end to the addiction crisis in our nation.” My Notes: This is a resource with a plethora of other resources within. They have a great deal of specialized info. for us and for our loved ones. Such as aiding in identifying problem substance use, education, prevention, the types of treatment available, how to navigate the systems of treatment, resources for paying for treatment, and the list goes on and on. Supervised Use Helpline

Click on the picture to visit the website and we have permission to copy and distribute flyers. Get the word out! I frequently mention these helplines because they make all the difference and they have saved several lives that greatly matter to me. They honor the good Samaritan law and simply sit on the phone and should someone become unresponsive they will call emergency services. Life-saving services and these people are heroes.

SAMHSA’S Free National Helpline

Reported as free, confidential, 24/7, 365 days-a-year access to substance use disorder and other mental health treatment referral & information service. You are also encouraged to call this line when in crisis. IF IT IS AN EMERGENCY CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY. This differs from SAMHSA’s other resource listing because this one is a phone helpline, that essentially does the same as the treatment locator, but for those of us that would rather talk to a human being, which is really thoughtful of SAMHSA. This is one of the many reasons they are so high on our list of resources.

lifeline.org
(Suicide & Crisis Hotline)

I think it’s important to include any crisis resources available in this database because while in active addiction, I had a great deal of Crisis’ and I know the extent of our struggles. They are REAL, and they are scary. If in crisis, you can reach Lifeline by calling or texting 9-8-8. They also have a chat option. You can chat with them at 988lifeline.org. IF IT IS AN EMERGENCY, DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY. I cannot stress this enough.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA)

We are all very aware of NA. The success part of my journey didn’t include it, but there is a tremendous amount of support and understanding that I can’t not recognize. The link below allows you to find meetings anywhere. NA is a great start and opens the door to an IMMENSE potential sober support network if that’s what you’re into.

National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)

A publicly funded research facility, NIDA can help with everything from getting the help you need to going before the legislature. They also recruit people to participate in clinical trials. I like the fact that they offer education towards prevention. What a genius concept?

NIDA

NIDA Overdose death Rates Statistics

This page is extremely sobering, but it’s information that we all need to see. How many of our loved ones are in those numbers? What’s it going to take? NIDA does a fantastic job of charting the information and showing us what’s going on without it being too much if that makes sense.

Favorite Addiction Recovery Blogs

These are some of my favorite addiction recovery bloggers and where you can find them.

Sasha Tozzi

“Sasha is a woman who writes, coaches, hypnotizes, and heals. She believes in hope, healing, and daily miracles for all. She addresses life from a mind-body-soul perspective and helps free people from cages they didn’t even know they were in. Sasha has been published in various publications including The Huffington Post, Tiny Buddha, and The Good Men Project, and is quite fond of the oxford comma. Her first book is in the works. She’s been continuously sober since September of 2011 and claims her sobriety & her mental illness journey as the doorway to her full awakening & creativity. She likes yoga and dancing her ass off. And she values freedom & peace above all.”

I love her work. It’s spiritual and awakening. You know I love all things spirit.

Recovering Addict Advice

Recovering Addict advice is a site by Chelsea Charmed and though I haven’t seen a new post since 2021 the posts that Chelsea does have are worth the read.

As for the stigmatizing language in the site title, “The language of recovery. We use the word addict as it is used in the recovering community. At meetings, group members are encouraged to verbally identify themselves as being an addict. We use the word for want of a better term. It is short and simple, and it represents the shared experience of many people who have struggled with this chronic medical condition.” It is addressed on the home page. My guess would be that it was appropriate at the time that she started the site. Great content and I believe that she has now published 1 or 2 books.

The Unruffled

Meet Sondra Primeiux

” I give F*cks, I really do, and I’m laser-focused on what I’m giving to them this year. If history has taught me anything, I’ll kill it somedays, create chaos the rest. But these words are here to remind me: generosity and stewardship is my home base.”
I absolutely love her, and you will too. Her witty narrative and zany ways have drawn my love and my respect. Be sure to check her out and give lots of comments, likes, and shares.

Sober Courage

Magz is a true inspiration to us all. I like how she is willing to help other creators by offering posts and links, unlike some other recovery bloggers. I feel this is another kindred soul, truly. Check out Sober Courage by clicking on Magz Picture.
